Hmmm.. focused almost entirely on ridgeline routes and summits while there, and my memory is a little fuzzy after 6-7 years, but there are a few things I remember. If you’ve spent much time concentrating on canyons in the area you are probably way beyond any of this.

A fun return from Romero Pools area is to drop down Montrose Canyon. Not very technical but I seem to remember one drop that could be a rappel rather than downclimb.

Always wanted to drop down Sabino from Summerhaven all the way. Upper part looked like there were some decent-sized drops. Lower part just a little above the end of the road could be fun too, but I have no direct experience unfortunately. Natural water slide above Hutch’s pool is definitely fun, but not technical of course.

The lower part of Esperero canyon looked interesting, but once again, didn’t get a chance to look too closely before I left.

Have you checked out Bear Canyon or the Agua Caliente area?

Finger Rock canyon (bottom of drainage; trail leaves bottom of drainage early on) was interesting; nothing more than scrambling the portions I was in but still fun. Used it to access the Prominent Pt. area several times.

My old notes may have been on a disk drive that has since gone down, but will check that if you’d like – you can contact me at john.diener@ashware.com. Also would be interested in hearing if you’ve had some good adventures down there.
