I think it is fair to point out that, when I got there, several bolts were already there, though stripped of hangers. So it is hardly “Tom’s Anchor”. I merely resurrected it.

Bottom belays enjoyed by all except Todd. ESPECIALLY by the flies, who got some good feeding in.

Hmm, rope, packrafts, rope, 4-piece kayaks paddles, more rope, 4D air pumps, and did I mention rope. 320ft rappels require a lot of it. =p

Getting to Tom’s ‘Edge of the world’ anchors isn’t that tough but it’s definitely an eye opening experience to be there. I was first on the BIG drop and had plenty of time to look down and soak in the enormity of it while meticulously setting up the rappel.

First off, the launch at Lee’s is on the OTHER SIDE of the river. 😉 > While this was the least pleasant pack rafting I have done (minimal currant), it has to be many times more enjoyable that walking the shore. Long tedious boulder hopping, Tammies, brush and trees with thorns, cliff barriers. The river is much easier and more fun.

For accuracy sake, the big rap is somewhere in the middle of the total raps. I don’t recall the experience of getting to that tiny, hanging “place in space” very well. I believe it was a short rap from the old station to that horrifying spot. I do recall Tom being there, tying me in. Then instructing me in soft tones, what to do. Then doing it for me, as I stared at the wall in front of me, with unblinking eyes, mouth slack and open, the sound of his words coming as a blur in the distance and a noticeable tremor throughout my entire body. It was much better for me once I started down, after making my first contribution to my own safety…demanding a bottom belay. Thanks Tom. > ram >

Interesting. No reasonable way to just walk the shoreline? Also – any issues getting down to the bolts Tom put in for the last rap? From the photos it looked like the last person would be pretty exposed.
