what shirt amd pants do you prefer and recommend for canyoneering in hot weather with multiple swims
material, barnd, short or long sleeves, shorts or long pants?
what do you recommend where there is lots of brush and maybe even poison oak?
Has anyone tried using a windshirt as a shirt, it dries quickly, though doesn’t drain well.

Paul,
My system uses a variety of designs and fabrications that can be adjusted to fit any canyon. I usually wear some kind of nylon hiking shorts. Nylon is reasonably abrasion resistant and dries quickly after getting wet. A cotton t-shirt is most comfortable in hot weather but can be very chilly in a dark narrow canyon after a good soaking. So I usually carry an old, long sleeve plypro or similar, zip t-neck. When I encounter water, I stash the t-shirt in my barrel and put on the synthetic one. It can get wet and I won’t get too cold.
I usually delegate old climbing and ski clothing to my canyoneering kit as narrow slots will just destroy them. I recently picked up a pair of brushed nylon twill pants that I like a lot. Good protection from scratchies, windproof, dry quickly etc. Got ’em on sale at an outlet mall.

I’m not sure any synthetic will work. Since I didn’t have any short sleeve synthetic I picked up a polyester goodwill short sleeve for $3 at my local goodwill.
It was terrible in a canyon. Hot and sweaty in the sun –and cold and clammy when wet didn’t dry very fast. Worse in the sun than my cotton short sleeved shirt, and didn’t seem much if any better after getting wet.

Any synthetic short sleeve shirt or pants are fine. They dry rreally fast. As for the second question long sleeve shirt pants are nice, but not nessecary. Stay away from the poison stuff, especially the oils. A windshirt is great if you are chilled, it also weighs a lot less than a fleece.
